Walter Dorosz //
Overview
Walter “Walt” Dorosz brings to Ubi Cras Underwriters (UC-UW) over 50 years of insurance industry experience spanning workers’ compensation, reinsurance, and medical stop-loss. Walt combines underwriting, finance, and operating expertise, and has navigated nearly every major workers’ compensation and stop-loss industry event while consistently delivering favorable outcomes for carriers, reinsurers, and operating partners.
Walt began his career at the Insurance Company of North America (INA), prior to its merger with CIGNA, entering the industry at a time when reinsurance structures, reserving practices, and program economics were being rewritten. He worked for the Life Insurance Company of North America (LINA), and later INA Life to help stabilize its operations; when the life companies were sold to Intercontinental Life Insurance Company (ILCO), he continued in that capacity. Time and again, Walt was placed into troubled divisions and trusted to bring them back on track — a grounding in the technical mechanics of the business that has informed every role since.
He later served as Chief Financial Officer of CIGNA Re, where he was responsible for the financial management, reporting, and reserve oversight of a major reinsurance operation. The role placed him at the intersection of underwriting results and financial outcomes, giving him a view of how portfolio decisions ultimately land on the balance sheet.
Walt also served as Chief Operating and Chief Audit Officer at IOA Re, a legacy managing general underwriter. There he oversaw operations, program administration, claims practice, and audit, and worked directly with ceding carriers and retrocessionaires through complex program runoff and dispute resolution. He has also served as Chief Audit Officer of Insurance Resources & Auditing Services, conducting underwriting and claims audits on behalf of carriers and reinsurers.
Across each role, Walt has been an operator and a fiduciary rather than a bystander, building the controls, audit discipline, and administrative infrastructure that let a book of business be trusted by the capital standing behind it. At UC-UW, he leads operations and financial controls, ensuring the platform’s underwriting is matched by administrative rigor its reinsurers and partners can verify.
